USA Lab CLC Series Temperature Probe Replacement Guide (PLC ONLY)
This guide explains how to test all three temperature probe channels on CLC Series chillers and how to replace a defective probe. It includes channel identification, wiring details, crimping instructions, and installation steps for all three probe locations.

Quick Facts
- Total probe channels: 3
- Test probe included with kit
- Silver wire = R+, red wires = R– (positions interchangeable)
- Replacement uses 3 butt connectors
- Probes correspond to RED, GREEN, BLUE channel wiring
STEP 1 — Access the Interior of the Chiller
- Remove the lid and open the front door of the chiller.
- Locate the probe signal converter, shown in the image on page 1.
STEP 2 — Prepare for Probe Testing
- Remove the wire channel caps to access the probe wiring.
- Use the included test probe to check each of the three channels.
STEP 3 — Channel Wiring Identification
- Page 2 includes both a wiring diagram and a labeled photo:
- Silver wire = R+
- Both red wires = R– (their positions do not matter)
- RED = Channel 1 (liquid temperature probe)
- GREEN = Channel 2 (compressor exchanger probe)
- BLUE = Channel 3 (external probe connector)
- Silver wire = R+
STEP 4 — Test Each Channel
- Install the test probe on Channel 1, then press Loop on the touchscreen.
- If the loop does not start, the probe on that channel is good—the fault lies on another channel.
- Repeat for all three channels.
STEP 5 — Identify and Cut Out the Defective Probe
- Once the bad probe is identified:
- Trace the probe wire to where the white and black wires meet the silver and red wires.
- Cut the connection point where they join.
- Prepare the replacement using the three butt connectors provided.
STEP 6 — Crimp New Probe Wiring
- Strip back the white and black wires.
- Using a crimp tool, attach the butt connectors as follows:
- White → Silver
- Black → Red
- Black → Red
- White → Silver
- After crimping, shrink the tubing ends with a lighter.
- Do not overheat the tubing or wires.
STEP 7 — Install the Replacement Probe
Liquid Temperature Probe (Channel 1 – RED)
- Loosen the set screw on the metal collar.
- Pull the old probe out and insert the new one.
Compressor Exchanger Probe (Channel 2 – GREEN)
- This location requires cutting back insulation.
- Insert the new probe into the same location as the failed one.
- Ensure the slip-over fabric cover is positioned at the wire exit to prevent cuts from sharp metal.
- Images on page 5 illustrate the probe seating and insulation area.
External Probe Connector (Channel 3 – BLUE)
- Replace the probe at the end of the external extension wire.
- Do not replace the internal wiring; only the removable external probe.
