Overview & Models

The UHC Series is a high-performance, closed-loop heater chiller system designed for precise temperature control from –40°C to 200°C. It’s ideal for:

  • Jacketed reactors

  • Rotary evaporators

  • Vacuum systems

  • Analytical instruments

Covered Models:

  • UHC-10/40

  • UHC-20/40

  • UHC-50/40

What’s in the Box

  • UHC Series Heater Chiller

  • (2x) ¾" FNPT insulated bellow hoses (6 ft)

  • ¾" FNPT brass valve

  • ¾" MNPT x ¾" MNPT hex union

  • PTFE thread tape

  • Red fiber gaskets

Installation & Assembly Steps

  1. Position unit within 6 ft of your system, with 12–16" ventilation space.

  2. Apply PTFE tape to threaded fittings (4 wraps minimum).

  3. Connect:

    • Outlet port → Ball valve → Hex union → Hose → Bottom port of vessel

    • Vessel top port → Hose → Inlet port of chiller

  4. Use red fiber gaskets at hose connections.

  5. Plug into a dedicated circuit using the correct plug:

    • UHC-10/40: NEMA 6-20P

    • UHC-20/40: NEMA L6-30P

    • UHC-50/40: Hardwired to a 60A panel

Approved Fluids

Use one of the following only:

Temperature Range Recommended Fluid
–40°C to 110°C 60:40 Propylene Glycol : Distilled Water
–40°C to 200°C High-Performance Silicone Oil

Do NOT use: Tap water or automotive antifreeze (causes corrosion).

Priming the Chiller

Always prime before use or after draining.

  1. Power on the unit.

  2. Open the ball valve.

  3. Turn on the pump.

  4. Let it run for 30 minutes to clear air.

  5. Shut off pump, close valve.

Control Panel Operation

  1. Press Set to enter temp mode.

  2. Use arrows to set your temp, press Set again to save.

  3. Press Loop, then Cooling and Heating to start.

  4. Both heating and cooling must be active for accurate temperature control.

Running the Unit

  1. Power on the unit.

  2. Open the ball valve.

  3. Run the pump.

  4. Set the target temperature.

  5. Enable both cooling and heating.

  6. Monitor tank level — do not drop below ¼ full.

  7. When finished, shut off pump and close valve.

Leaving the valve open during shutdown can cause tank overflow.

Maintenance

  • Daily: Monitor fluid level and visible leaks

  • Monthly:

    • Inspect wiring

    • Clean condenser and cabinet

    • Check copper lines for damage

  • Quarterly: Clean condenser fins (more often in dusty environments)

Use glycol test strips if not using silicone oil.

Common Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
No power Check breakers, connections, plug screws
No heating Check heating relay, safety dial
No cooling Clean fan, check compressor
Boiling/Smoking Set temp too high; switch to silicone oil
